LEAD company SeaPattern, based in Linköping, has secured an investment of SEK 8 million from Norrsken Launcher to bring its innovative hydropower technology to market. “There is a huge need for local and stable energy supply,” says CEO and founder Niklas Boman
Hydropower currently accounts for just over 40 percent of Sweden’s energy mix, but it could be more. That’s according to SeaPattern, which has developed a technology that can make existing hydropower plants 10 percent more efficient, without having to build new infrastructure or impact the environment.
Now Norrsken Launcher, which only invests in 1-3 companies per year, has become an investor in the company with the ambition to scale up both technology and business.
– “This means that we will industrialize our system for the commercial market. In practice, this means that we will hire an additional ten people this year, based in Linköping and Stockholm, most of whom are engineers,” says Niklas Boman.
SeaPattern has been a member of LEAD since 2021 and is also part of Sweden’s first acceleration program for civil-military innovation at LEAD.
– “We are incredibly proud and excited about SeaPattern’s success. They are a shining example of how innovation and research can be transformed into solutions with great societal impact,” says LEAD CEO Catharina Sandberg.
